Stella - 21 - Iceland

This was the first time I saw them. And I completely fell in love.I remember Theo speaking Icelandic a bit and it was insane how much he got the words right. The new video for Wonderful Life had just been released and they told us they had been in the country just one month before to film another music video that’d be released soon. That video was ‘Stay’.  This is the show they used to talk about in their interviews. With the crowd-surfing. It seems so long ago, but I still remember it like it happened yesterday. This show changed my life forever, as it was my first real concert. I had only been to litte shows before this one. And what a way to start. Before they came onstage I remember some guy holding up a pineapple (Icelandic: Ananas) and then he started shouting: “ANANAS!! ANANAS!! ANANAS!!” over and over again. Eventually it caught on and EVERYBODY in the venue started chanting for this pineapple for what seemed like 20 minutes. It was hilarious.I hope to ask Theo or Adam about this someday and see if they remember it. The Vaccines performing “Ó Reykjavík” at Iceland Airwaves

Let’s take a moment to talk about Arni in this video. I don’t know if my favorite part was him moshing with people in the crowd or if it was when he got picked up by the security guard. It was all good!

in which Árni basically runs into me

today I am seeing, in order:

Passwords
Half Moon Run
Retro Stefson (again, can’t get enough)
Nolo
Sin Fang
Patrick Wolf
Moss
Mammút
The Vaccines
Shearwater
FM Belfast

or at least I’m gonna TRY to see them all… I’m kinda scared of this weather, it is SO windy, I think it’s getting a little dangerous and I don’t wanna die yet.

today has been completely insane.

went out at 3pm to check out some off-venue shows, and just came home now, and it’s 2:30am.

The weather is just ridiculous right now. SO windy, I can’t. I’m afraid to go outside cause I’ll just blow away.

Anyway… the first band I saw today was Shiko Shiko, and it was accidental.. I was on my way to see something else and stumbled into them at Sirkusport and staying there was the best decision I made all day. It was crazy. Also stood beside Unnsteinn from Retro Stefson for half the show which was great, but a bit awkward, cause I had literally JUST bought his album like 5 minutes before and I was holding it in my hands.
So yea, I FINALLY got the new Retro Stefson album. I’ve been waiting to get it in my hands for what feels like forever. It’s SO good.
Also.. did I mention last year at Airwaves, I was walking on the sidewalk and Unnsteinn walked past me and accidentally pushed me into a puddle. lol. I keep bumping into him everywhere. It’s weird.

Also, I saw Thee Attacks at Bar 11 and it was awesome, and then I went to Harpa and saw Dikta, Bloodgroup and Of Monsters and Men, who completely blew me away. They are amazing live. A.Maz.Ing.

I’M SEEING THE VACCINES TOMORROW

and here’s Þórgunnur:

OK

I literally JUST got back from seeing Sykur and Retro Stefson at Harpa and gooDNESS it was amazing.

I had to walk there in the freezing cold and crazy wind and it took me like 30 minutes but GOD it was sO worth it!

Retro Stefson was just amazing. There’s nothing like seeing one of your favorite bands live. Not to mention that Unnsteinn Manuel is one of the few guys in Iceland that I actually find really attractive (except for the keyboard guy from Nolo haha), cause everyone else seems to be so ~blonde and blue eyed……… *hee

Anyway… I recorded a few of my favorite songs… I’ll probably post a video later : )

Can’t wait for tomorrow, cause Skífan has 20% off all Icelandic music and it’s open until midnight and I can finally get their new album eeeEEE

And here’s a picture of Harpa I took before the show:

tomorrow I will be picking up my Airwaves bracelet. Tomorrow.
I have been waiting for a year for this.
Can
Not
Wait

(sc)rambles

I’m sick today. Which hasn’t happened in a few years, so I had to take my first sick-day ever from work, and to be honest I feel a little guilty. It’s 15:40 right now and haven’t eaten anything since last night, and I’m not even hungry.

Anyway, the Vaccines will be playing Iceland Airwaves this year which is the greatest thing.  They were supposed to play last year, but they didn’t make it, so now I’m just stoked.
The other artists (that have been announced so far) that I’m really excited to see are:
Django Django
FM Belfast
Friends
Nolo
Of Monsters and Men
Patrick Wolf
Retro Stefson
Purity Ring
Sigur Rós
Sykur
Half Moon Run

and they still haven’t put out the whole line-up yet, so I’m gonna be running from venue to venue the whole time, I bet.

In 2010 when I went to Iceland Airwaves, Neon Indian and Toro y Moi had a show at the exact same time, and I was torn. How can you just make me choose?!  But I ended up seeing Neon Indian, which I do NOT regret at ALL because it was the best. show. ever. But I was still sad cause I didn’t get to see Toro y Moi. Anyway, I also saw HURTS for the first time in 2010, and Of Monsters and Men, before they got so huge. And it was great.

Last year my favorites that I saw were the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Retro Stefson, Nolo, and Mazes.  Also.. I stood beside Sean Lennon & his gf for 40 minutes which still seems so unreal.
Needless to say, it was great.

Don’t know why I started to ramble about my concert history.. but okay.
That’s all for now.
Bye

Aaaaaaa

Sigur Rós are headlining Iceland Airwaves this year!!

I AM TOO EXCITED

Iceland Airwaves - a Rockumentary

Best times of my life.

Look at the guy with the pineapple in the beginnig… That’s at my first HURTS concert. It was amazing.  And the next day I met Neon Indian. And then this year I met Mazes and saw Sean Lennon and then the Plastic Ono Band and Nolo and a lot of others.
Oh my god everything about this is just so great aldushfaæosdjf

Favorite week of the year.
